The 2017 VHMS school project covered South Dakota History. All students grades 5-8 participated in the week long project. The project allowed students to learn about the great state of South Dakota and build real life skills in the process. During the project, students visited local museums, tasted South Dakota heritage foods, played old-time games, constructed presentation boards, learned the South Dakota state song, made large Dreamcatchers & presented their "Famous South Dakotas" biographies to the community. The students learned a lot about what makes South Dakota great and were able to work on the real life skills of problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and organization along the way. Special thanks to the VHMS Staff for all of their hard work organizing and facilitating the project, Jones Food Center for the monetary donation for project materials, the Daneville Heritage Museum of Viborg, the Arthur Nelson Memorial Museum of Hurley and to all of the students for their participation and efforts.
